My name is Janelle Reece

I'm a young creative based in Dallas, Georgia. Theatre Nerd, Triple Threat, & Body Engineer are my preferred titles but more often than not, I'm called a Choreographer. Out of my love for the performing arts, I want to share the magic of theatre with all!

The last month of working for @bhbc_dance has been a blast!! Been reunited with some old dance friends and made some new ones too!!

Having such a blast with my sweet preschool classes, using imagination and play in dance training, helping them fine-tune their gross motor skills, and having a lot of fun doing it! I have some openings in my Monday afternoon classes if anyone is looking for a creative movement class for their little one ☺️

My musical theatre class for late elementary-early middle school age has been new and exciting. I'm bridging the gap between my two loves, acting and dancing! We play improv games, move to showtunes, and talk about how we can improve our stage presence through the exercises we do in class. I have some students in that class who I taught when they were in kindergarten which has been so special 🥹

Last class of the week is a K-1st grade ballet/tap combo class. These girls absolutely love to dance which makes it a joy to teach! At the start of every class we "travel back in time" to emphasize just how old yet timeless the practice of ballet really is. I've loved being their introduction to work at the barre, making the habit of breathing and preparing yourself before every routine. In tap class we just have a lot of fun making joyful noise 😁

I'm really looking forward to the rest of the year with Burnt Hickory Dance!!

I'm so thankful that I grew up doing plays and musicals my whole life.

Benefits of theatre in kids & teens:

From "It's a Wonderful Life: a live radio play!"

CAMP NARROWAY

throwback to 2022, I was a senior in high school and I was given the opportunity to create and put on a performing arts summer camp with @thrivedanceoxford in Oxford, Mississippi.

After only a week of practices, the kids put on a showcase featuring various Broadway songs with original choreography and connecting skits to form a storyline between each song.

I had the honor of writing, directing, organizing, teaching, delegating, and even designing the T-shirt. This camp was a major feat for Thrive Dance Ministry and for me, a scrappy 18 year old with some ideas and a love for theatre.

With over 50 kids, a handful of volunteer helpers, and a whole lot of caffeine, we were able to pull it off! It was many individuals first exposure to performing and acting and I was so blessed to be an introductory.

My favorite part of the camp was teaching 1 of the 4 block periods of the camp - voice, dance, drama, and crafts. All the kids knew me as the dramatic drama teacher ✨ every day I would greet each group with the most posh and proper "welcome to drama" and a bow. By the end of the week, some kids were beating me to my own greeting!
I had so much fun playing improv games, teaching stage etiquette, and helping kids explore their emotions through acting.

I couldn't have made it through the week without my dear friends by my side! It truly takes a village to make one person's vision a reality!

🌟 performance spotlight 🌟

Back in 2021, I was the choreographer for this beautiful one act named "Melody's Serenade" written by my good friend, Mr. Chris Boberg! As well as choreographing this WWII era play, I played 1/3 of the local singing trio affectionately named "The Meadowlarks"

With all the harmonies, swing dance, and background acting I got to do, this show is a favorite of mine. There's something so special about performing a show that has never been done before and using so much artistic freedom to create an incredibly memorable experience.

Plus, 1940s might be my favorite era of fashion 😍 I did not get tired of all the pearls and red lipstick, although the amount of hairspray used on me was reaching dangerous amounts 😳

🌟 performance spotlight🌟

this is a throwback to the summer of 2022 where I played Karen the Computer in @wonder_playhouse 's production of "SpongeBob the Musical"

What a wild, fun show that I never imagined I would be a part of! Karen introduced me to voice acting - a mix of robot and midwestern mom tone. I had a blast playing such an unenthusiastic villain, the wife behind the evil mastermind (a.k.a. the real mastermind) who was so over the top with her schemes.

This show stretched me as an actress and a human, and I love a good challenge 😉

Playing Mary Hatch in "It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play" was equally sweet as it was challenging. You won't find a more faithful and loving wife in any other show. It was my joy to bring Mary to life and portray her pure love for her family. If you know the story of It's A Wonderful Life, then you know this woman cares for her community in such a special way. She's the one to say, "I'm not giving up on you yet. And good luck trying to get me to."

The 1940s is one of my favorite eras to emulate. So swanky and classy! Did you see this show? What did you think?

🌟 performance spotlight 🌟

Caroline Bingley in "Pride and Prejudice" was the first role I ever enjoyed memorizing my lines for. Because the show is written from Elizabeth Bennet's perspective, Caroline is only seen in an antagonist's light. But after some close character study, I found that she is practical, confident, and very protective of those she holds dear. No longer was she just the "rich mean girl," but she was real with real desires and flaws and motivations. I learned that Caroline chooses her words meticulously to accomplish her goal. Not only was it an honor, but an absolute blast playing this character.

Caroline Bingley is a fierce woman. And she's the perfect example of how women have the power to use words to build others up or completely destroy them. How do you use your words?

🌟performance spotlight🌟

Playing Emma in "Emma: a Pop Musical" is one of my all time favorite performances. Based on the book by Jane Austen, the show features Emma, a rich prep school senior, entangling herself in her friends' love lives in order to avoid facing her own.

Through the process of analyzing Emma as a character and learning how to portray her complexities as a caring but immature young woman, I started to see her for her heart instead of her faults. Originally I thought Emma and I would not get along well, but after getting to know her I realized we're not so different after all. We're both girls with good intentions learning how to love those around us and not getting it perfect every time.

Emma is daring and confident and I'm so grateful I got to walk in her shoes and learn from her for a short time ❤️
